Zhao Cai, our mascot
Well, we can't take him with us, but he seems to be the most popular member of our team, so here's a lovely video we made of the outtakes left on the 'cutting room floor' (that is, unused clips from iMovie) of our attempt to film Zhao Cai

Some More Photos
Our original concept for the video began with a slideshow of favorite photographs from our cumulative years in Taiwan before heading into our actual introduction. Time limits made that impossible, but we managed to feature a few on the Team Introduction.

We hope to show that besides being talented writers (and able to blog in both English and Chinese), we're also pretty decent photographers, too - and not afraid to get right in the middle of the action, chat with locals and bring out the best Taiwan has to offer.

Here are the rest, a rest for your eyes!

A temple fair at Taipei City God Temple (Xiahai Temple on Dihua Street). This processional originated elsewhere, and is in celebration of Wenzhang's birthday. Wenzhang is the god of education - there is a shrine to him at Longshan Temple and the idol in one of the two buildings at Chihkan Towers in Tainan is of him. Most Taipei temple processionals that originate in the older part of Taipei pass by Xiahai, making an ideal place to hang out in hopes of running into one.

Last year, my sister, fiance, a mutual friend and I went to Pasta'ai. Pasta'ai is a Saisiyat aboriginal tradition that happens once every two years, welcoming dark dwarf spirits (the ta'ai) to join in the Saisiyat harvest. It's also a good excuse to wear traditional clothes, dance and drink buckets (literally buckets) of millet wine.
In my personal opinion, central Taiwan is the most beautiful part of the country. It has soaring mountains and small towns that have barely been touched by tourism, as well as some of the island's friendliest people, most traditional cultures and best fruit and tea. This photo is from my personal haven, Lishan.

As mentioned in my personal blog,we all grew up below the stage of Ge Zai Xi. We all did the stupid things as puting on the quilt and pretended we were the actors and the actresses. Everyone wanted to be both the Xiao Sheng (1st actor ) and Xiao Dan (1st actress),however, it's hard for a person to play the roles at the same time.
High!
After growing up,Ge Zai Xi had fallen away but seems it has been reborn. It was thought only old people enjoy Ge Zai Xi. There are a lot of young people showing to watch it because some groups pour grand ideas to attractive those young ones. You may see those young ones preparing light sticks and fans what the actors' portraits are printed as attending a POP music concert!!

We love Taiwan /
We're Team Zhen Tai, and we love Taiwan! There are three members of Team Zhen Tai - Jenna, Brendan and Sasha.
Jenna has lived in Taiwan for three years, works in corporate training and studies Chinese at Shi-da and TLI (depending on the semester). She's been to several countries, but thinks Taiwan is the best one she's visited - that's why she lives here! Her favorite aspects of Taiwan are the temple fairs, the scenery, the seafood and tea and the fact that Taiwanese people are among the friendliest and most welcoming in the world.
Brendan is Jenna's fiance and also works in corporate training in Taipei. He's been here for two years and finds that Taiwan provides ample opportunity for him to joke with his signature dry wit. He's crazy about Taiwanese food and is interested in the island's history. He especially likes southern Taiwan for its cultural heritage and gorgeous weather, and loves the east coast, which he hopes to explore in greater depth in the future. He's also a fan of the Pingxi area.
Sasha is a mutual friend and hails from Kaohsiung. She's fluent in English, Chinese and Taiwanese and is proud to be Taiwanese. She is a ge zai xi (Taiwanese opera) aficionado, loves night markets, Taiwan Beer and temple fairs, and is learning Spanish in her spare time. She's interested in Taiwanese cultural festivals - both the ones with their origins in China and those of the indigenous Formosan aboriginal tribes. She's a wizard with travel itineraries and can find a bus to anywhere...really, anywhere.
Together, we're sure our travel experience, local knowledge, humor and enthusiasm will help you learn more about Taiwan and come to love it as much as we do!
